바로크 음악의 스페셜리스트, 데이비드 왓킨이 연주하는 바흐 무반주 첼로 모음곡 전곡. 왓킨은 이제까지 하모니아 문디 프랑스, 버진, 샨도스 등 다양한 레이블에서 녹음을 해왔으며, 이 중 평단의 극찬을 이끌어낸 비발디 첼로 소나타 하이페리온 녹음은 그의 대표적 음반이다. 뛰어난 음악성과 더불어 진지한 학구적 열정을 겸비한 연주자답게 왓킨은 1670년산 프란체스코 루제리와 1600년산 5현 아마티를 병행하여 첼로 음악의 최고봉인 무반주 첼로 모음곡을 완성했다. 무곡다운 빠른 악장과 진정 노래하는 듯한 느린 악장의 대비가 압권이며, 매혹적인 거트 현의 질감도 일품이다.
