펠릭스 멘델스존: 하늘 높은 곳에서 내가 왔노라 MWV A22, 첫 발푸르기스의 밤 Op.60, MWV D3 / 파니 멘델스존: 칸타타 ‘욥’ H-U258, 정원 노래 Op.3

파니 멘델스존이 1831년 작곡한 3개의 칸타타 중 하나인 욥은 제목에서도 알 수 있듯이 [욥記]를 기반으로 쓰여진 작품이다. 이 칸타타는 오랫동안 빛을 보지 못했고 작곡 이후 1세기 반이 지난 1992년까지 미발표인 채로 있었다. 1846년에 작곡된 무반주 합창을 위한 정원 노래 Op.3은 그녀의 베를린 거주지에 있는 정원과 별장에서 영감을 받아 작곡했으며 이곳에서 합창단 리허설을 열기도 했다.
펠릭스 멘델스존의 ‘첫 발푸르기스의 밤’은 괴테의 시를 바탕으로 한 세속 칸타타로, 1831년 초연, 1843년 대폭 개정이 있었고 이 앨범에는 개정판이 수록되었다.
합창 지휘자 데이비드 템플이 클라우치 엔드 페스티벌 합창단과 런던 모차르트 플레이어즈를 이끌고 멘델스존 남매의 합창곡을 발표하였다. 이 앨범에는 2023년 BBC프롬스에 두차례나 출연해 화제가 된 콘트랄토 제스 댄디를 비롯해 강력한 솔리스트진이 출연한다.
